ENGLISH MISSION IN KARABAGH: Turkey which was defeated in World War I
officially withdrew its troops from Transcaucasus in November of 1918. Instead,
on behalf of Entente England based its troops here. Thus, on November 17,
1918 the English troops under the commandment of General Thomson arrived in
Baku from Persia. To demonstrate its presence in the region, forthwith a mission
was sent to
Karabagh headed by Gibons (Gibton), Major of the British Army. The mission arrived in Karabagh (town of Shushi) on December 1. During 1918 - 1919 Major Monk Meson (MacMozen), Captains Seright, Glaterberg (Clatterberg) and Gouans were involved in the mission. General Shattleword and Colonel Sanders visited Karabagh for several times. The number of the Sepoy Hindus serving in the English troops was increased from 50 to 400.
