TOPONYMICS
LACHIN (KASHATAKH) REGION: In Armenian historiography
is referred to as Aghachek, one of the provinces of Siunik Region of Great
Armenia. For the first time it was mentioned in "Ashkharatsuits"
(VII century).
Borders on Sisian and Goris regions (Republic of Armenia), Karvachar and Kubatli
regions (Republic of Azerbaijan), Shushi and Hadrut regions (NKR). Today the
territory of the historical Aghachek province basically corresponds to Kashatakh
(Lachin) region of NKR. It covers an area of 1835 km2
