OUTSTANDING PEOPLE OF KARABAGH
HAYRAPETYAN VAGHARSHAK KARAPET (1921 - ): Born in 1921 in Karabulagh village (Askeran region, Nagorno Karabagh). Bearer of the Order of Distinction. From August of 1942 participated in the Great Patriotic War.
HAYRAPETYAN GURGEN (GRIGOR) MICHAEL (1914 - ): Born in
1914 in Mingrelsk village of Martakert Region (Nagorno Karabagh). A Hero of
the Soviet Union. Hayrapetyan was the commander of a company of the 73rd Infantry
Regiment. He participated in the liberation of West Ukraine and West Belorussia.
Awarded with the Lenin Order, Gold Star Medal, Red Banner Order, two Orders
of Red Star, and various medals.
HAYRAPETYAN SENARIK NERSES (1934 - ) - A doctor of Biology, member
of the International Organization of Supra-Molecular Biology. Born in 1934
in Chartar village. In 1966 graduated from the Department of Biology of Yerevan
State University. Worked in the Institute of Physiology and the Institute
of Biology of the Academy of Science of Armenia. Participated in numerous
international conferences (England, Yugoslavia, Japan). In 1974 was elected
member of the International Organization of Supra-Molecular Biology. Hayrapetyan
is the author of over 120 scientific works.
HAYIRYAN ARMEN TEVAN (1910- ) Born in 1910 in Tokh village (Hadrut
Region of Nagorno Karabagh). A Hero of the Soviet Union. Participated in the
Great Patriotic War. As recognition of his skillfulness in the air battles
the government awarded Hayiryan with a Lenin Order, two Red Banner Orders
and other medals.
HAKOPYANTS GEVORK TAMRAZ (1920 - ): Born in 1920 in Piatigorsk to
a family from Karabagh. A Hero of the Soviet Union. Participated in the Great
Patriotic War. Awarded with a Lenin Order, Red Star, Red Banner, Orders of
the Patriotic War of the 1st and 2nd degrees and other medals.
HARUTYUNYAN MICHAEL AVET (1897-1961) - Born in 1897 in Shushi. In
1919 graduated from Saratov Art Studio. During 1921-1923 Harutyunyan was enrolled
in the department of law of Berlin University. He also studied in the Colarosse
Academy in Paris during 1924-1925. In 1958 received the title of the People's
Artist of Armenia. Awarded with Red Banner Labor Order.
HARUTYUNYAN NAGHUSH KHACHATUR (1912 ) - An academician of the Academy
of Sciences of Armenia, doctor of technical sciences, professor, honored worker
of science. Born in 1912 in Yerevan to a family from Artsakh (Harutyunyan
was the grandson of Leo). In 1936 graduated from the Military-Engineering
Academy after Kuibishev in Moscow. During 1960-1961 Harutyunyan was vice-president
of the Academy of Sciences of Armenia, and the president of Yerevan State
University from 1961 though 1963. Harutyunyan was the chairman of the Presidium
of the USSR Supreme Council. In 1977 he worked in the Institute of Problems
of Mechanics at the USSR Academy of Sciences. Harutyunyan was one of the founders
of the school of modern mechanics. Awarded with Orders of Lenin, October Revolution,
Red Banner, Great Patriotic War of the 1st and 2nd degrees, Red Star, etc.
HAKHUMYAN TIGRAN SIMON ( 1894-1973)- A critic of literature, translator,
professor, member of the Writers' Union, honored worker of art. Born in 1894
in Yerevan to a family from Artsakh. In 1917 Hakhumyan graduated from the
Legal and Philological Departments of Moscow State University. During 1917-1919
he worked as the editor-in-chief of "Mshak" newspaper in Tbilisi.
In 1922 he moved to Yerevan where he worked as an attorney. During 1943-1948
Hakhumyan taught at the Pedagogical Institute after Abovyan, at Yerevan University,
the Institute of Russian and Foreign Languages after Bryusov. Hakhumyan is
the translator of 99 plays from Russian into Armenia.
HOVHANNISYAN VLADIMIR ABRAM (1905 - 1943) Born in 1905 in Rev village
(Askeran Region of Nagorno Karabagh). A Hero of the Soviet Union. During the
Great Patriotic War fought in the Leningrad front, the approaches to Moscow,
Rostov-on-Don and the Oriol front. Hovhannisyan died in a battle.
HOVSEPYAN GAREGIN KARAPET (1867- 1952) - A doctor of philosophy, a
famous figure of Armenian culture, member of Kaiser Academy, pedagogue, Armeniograph,
catholicos of Kilikia. Hovsepyan was born in 1867 in Magavuz village of Martakert
Region. In 1882 was enrolled in Gevorgyan Seminary in Echmiadzin, and in 1892
moved to Germany where he studied theology, philosophy and history at the
universities of Leipzig, Galle and Berlin. In 1897 he returned to Echmiadzin
from Germany and became a teacher of theology and bibliography in Gevorgyan
Seminary. In 1912 Hovsepyan participated in the excavations of Ani together
with N. Marr. He was elected member of Kaizer Society in Petersburg. Hovsepyan
chaired the committee on Protection of Ancient Monuments of Armenia. In 1927
he was elected head of eparchy of Russia, Crimea and New Nakhichevan. In 1938
Hovsepyan was elected head of Armenian eparchy, and in 1943 he became the
catholicos of Kilikia. Owing to his efforts many of the masterpieces of art
were discovered and preserved.
HOVHANNISYAN LEVON ANDREAS (1885-1970) - A therapist, academician of
the Academy of Sciences of Armenia and the USSR, member of International Academy
of History of Medicine, honored worker of sciences of Armenia, doctor of medicine,
professor. Hovhannisyan was born in 1885 in Tiflis to a family from Shushi.
In 1909 he graduated from the Department of Medicine of Kharkov University.
During 1923-1967 he worked in Yerevan Medical Institute. Later he joined the
Academy of Sciences of Armenia where he worked from 1944 through 1953. Upon
his initiative, the institute of tropical diseases was opened in Yerevan,
and in 1960-1961 the institute of cardiology was established. In honor of
Hovhannisyan, the said institute was named after its founder. Hovhannisyan
is the author of over 400 scientific works in the areas of cardiology, balneology,
spa treatment and study of various diseases. Hovhannisyan was member of Soviet
Society of Therapists. Moreover, he was awarded with two Red Banner Orders.
